Auto-negotiation Gigabit optical interfaces

Gigabit optical interface can operate in two modes enforcement and auto-negotiation. 802.3 specification only supports gigabit optical port rate 1000M to support full-duplex and half-duplex duplex mode.

Auto-negotiation and enforcement is the most fundamental difference between the two different code streams in the establishment of a physical link transmission, auto-negotiation mode is transmitted / C / code, which is configured stream, while enforcement mode is transmitted / I / yard , which is idle stream.

Gigabit optical port auto-negotiation process

First, the ends are set to auto-negotiation mode

Both sides send each other / C / stream, if consecutively received three identical / C / code and the received code stream and the local ways of working to match, then return to the other party a response Ack / C / yard with, After receiving the Ack message to termination, that the two can communicate, set the port state to UP.

Second, the end of the set to auto-negotiation, the other end is set to enforce mode

Auto-negotiation sends / C / stream, enforcement sends / I / stream, enforcement can not be provided to the other end of this negotiation information can not return Ack response to the peer, it auto-negotiation end DOWN. But enforcement itself can recognize / C / code that peer is matched with its own port, so directly set the local port to UP state.

Third, the ends are set to enforce mode

Both sides send each other / I / stream, one end of the received / I / stream after that to end the match with its own port, directly set the local port to UP state.
