Narrowband PON technology features

Narrowband PON network topology and the same ATM-PON, which has the following major differences between ATM-PON:

◆ ATM-PON broadband access technology, can provide users with more than 2Mb/s access rate; narrowband access technology only supports narrowband service, to provide users with access speed of up to 2Mb/s.
◆ narrowband PON line rate is far less than the ATM-PON. Its line speed is generally in 20Mb/s to 50Mb/s.
◆ narrowband PON transmission using circuit mode, and ATM-PON uses packet mode (ATM cell).
◆ narrowband PON network side interface is generally V5 interface, the user-side interface to various existing narrowband service interfaces; ATM-PON network side interface is generally ATM interface, the user-side interfaces include various broadband and narrowband service interfaces.
◆ narrowband PON standardization is not as ATM-PON. Narrowband PON is the first product, after standard; ATM-PON products and standards are out almost simultaneously.

In addition to these few differences, other characteristics of narrowband PON and ATM-PON same. Narrowband PON equipment prices fell rapidly, has been close to narrowband access widely used IDLC (integrated digital loop carrier) price.
