WDM-Wavelength Division Multiplexing

6/4/15  |  Technical Article

WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), Lightwave share with technology, is transmitted simultaneously in a single optical fiber technology multi-wavelength optical signal. The basic principle is that the sender will combine different wavelengths of light signals together (multiplexed), and coupled to the same fiber optic cable lines for transmission at the receiving end in turn mixed wavelength signal separated (de-multiplexing) and further processing, after the resumption of the signal into different terminals. According to the spacing between the different wavelengths in the same fiber transmission, but also can be divided into CWDM and DWDM. Common WDM technology, the wavelength interval used in general about 4-10nm.

CWDM: Coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) wavelength spacing of 20nm. Because the wavelength spacing greater accuracy is not required, so CDWM system in filtering, cooling, power consumption, low cost and so on.

DWDM: Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), wavelength interval of about 1nm.
