Currently, China Mobile's existing network has more than one million sets of PTN equipment, how to make the current network PTN devices are fully utilized, this is the issue of China Mobile focus.

According to reports, China Mobile, when introduced SPTN will be divided into two stages, the first is compatible with the existing network, and then the implementation supports openflow. In addition, the new SPTN control plane will be independent of the management plane, to maintain the original OSS function and operation and maintenance habits, to achieve a smooth upgrade the existing network.

On the functional partitioning, control plane, mainly to solve business flexible and intelligent scheduling control; management plane is responsible for basic troubleshooting, performance and security management functions. Management will follow the management model plane, the control plane for the introduction of new business models, both resource object remains cooperative. On the database side, will guarantee consistency, EMS and D-C, APP and comprehensive resource system will respectively share a unified database, S-C business-driven data dynamic real-time interaction. SPTN of APP and integrated resource system components into the original form of integrated resource system, in a unified business interface, to achieve coordinated operation. In the forwarding plane, to maintain the existing metro PTN forwarding device unchanged, the future will adopt a unified D-controller controls multi-vendor integrated miniaturized PTN.
